Good to know
Useful answers before you choose or call.
Plans, networks and properties differ. Start with the live information for your address, then bring any questions to a real Aerocom person.
Choose with confidence
Choosing a speed
The right package follows the people, devices and work happening at your address. These simple checks make live package cards easier to compare.
What is download speed, and what is upload speed?
Download is data arriving at your home, so it matters for streaming, browsing and downloading. Upload is data leaving your home, which matters for video calls, cloud backups and sending large files.
Look at both figures on each live package. A household can need more upload headroom when a home office, school work and family calls happen together.
How do I choose for a busy household or small business?
Count the activities that overlap, rather than counting people alone. For example, a family might stream while someone studies and two people join video calls. A small business may care about steady service for cloud tools and a card terminal as much as peak speed.
Compare the current options returned for your address and tell the Aerocom team what runs at the same time. We can help you compare the available plans for your home or business.
Is latency the same as speed?
No. Speed is how much data a connection can move; latency is the response delay. Lower latency can make calls, interactive work and online games feel more responsive, while download and upload capacity decides how much can move at once. Both are useful when comparing a service for your household or business.
Why can Wi-Fi feel slower than the line into my home?
Wi-Fi shares the connection through walls, distance, interference and the limits of each device. The package and the room where you use it are therefore different parts of the experience.
Test close to the router first, then test one device with an Ethernet cable if possible. This helps separate a Wi-Fi coverage issue from a line or service issue before you change packages.
What should I compare on a live package card?
Compare the provider, download and upload speeds, monthly rand price including VAT, and the contract term together. Ask our team about installation, equipment and once-off charges wherever the live card does not confirm them. Installation is not automatically free, and final availability and costs are confirmed for your address.
Moving address
Moving home
Coverage belongs to a property, not just a suburb. A little address detail helps us check the right network and set clear next steps.
What address details should I use for a coverage check?
Use the precise street address and the roof pin where the service will be installed. If you live in a complex or flat, include the complex name, unit or flat number, building and access details. Coverage can vary between properties on the same street, so a suburb or postcode alone is not enough to confirm service.
What should be confirmed before I move my service?
Ask us to confirm the available network, the installation and activation steps, site access requirements, and any equipment or once-off charges. If you are leaving a current provider, wait until the new service and its activation plan are confirmed before asking the old provider to cancel. That helps avoid an unnecessary gap in service.
How long will installation take, and what will it cost?
Timing and cost depend on the network, property, access, permissions and work required. We will confirm the current position for your address before activation; there is no single installation time or price that applies to every move.

Power and Wi-Fi
A practical home backup plan starts with the equipment in your home and a clear view of what sits outside it.
Which equipment needs backup power?
The router and, where it is a separate unit, the fibre ONT both need compatible power if you want your home connection to keep working during an interruption. Some installations combine these in one unit. A mesh node, switch or other network equipment may need power too. Use compatible manufacturer-rated backup equipment and ask for advice if you are unsure.
Will a backup battery keep my internet on during loadshedding?
Home backup can keep your own equipment powered, but the network upstream may also be affected by power conditions. A home battery cannot control that part of the network, so it cannot make an always-on promise on its own. Check the current network position if service is interrupted.
What can I try when Wi-Fi is weak?
Place the router in an open, central position away from large metal objects and thick obstructions. Restart only after checking the power connections, then compare a nearby Wi-Fi test with an Ethernet test. If Ethernet is healthy but a distant room is slow, the next step may be better Wi-Fi placement or additional access points.
Can Aerocom help me plan backup power?
Yes. Our solar and backup power service can help you assess the router, ONT and other essential loads, then discuss runtime and site needs.Explore solar and backup power
